Ayyubid Army

Medieval

The Ayyubid army was the force Saladin united from Egypt and Muslim Syria. It included regular troops and mamluk (slave-soldier) units; in 1177 Saladin led a force of some 26,000 soldiers into southern Palestine. His general Qaraqush separately conquered Tripoli with an army of Turks, Kurds and Bedouin Arab troops, illustrating the force's mixed composition.
