The Shielder is a British anti-tank barrier delivery system built on the American Alliant Techsystems Volcano mine-scattering technology, ordered by the British Army in 1995 and first deployed in 1999. Its launching equipment is carried on an Alvis Stormer armored vehicle fitted with up to 40 dispensers of six mines each, letting the vehicle scatter minefields to its sides and rear while on the move, with every mine carrying a programmable self-destruct timer. The British Army fielded twenty-nine Shielder vehicles as of 2009 before withdrawing the system from active service in 2013 and 2014; Ukraine also operates the system.
