The 18-pounder long gun was an intermediate-calibre piece of naval artillery mounted aboard warships of the Age of Sail, originating in France. It served as the main armament of the most typical frigates of the early 19th century, and was also fitted on the second deck of third-rate ships of the line and even the third deck of some late first-rate ships of the line.
