The FH70, short for field howitzer for the 1970s, is a towed 155 mm howitzer jointly developed by the United Kingdom, West Germany and Italy and built by VSEL, Rheinmetall and OTO Melara, with Japan Steel Works producing it under license. It entered service in 1978 and remains in active use with Italy, Japan, which built 480 under license, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine, having formerly also equipped the militaries of Estonia, Germany, Malaysia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
