Battle of Hattin

Fought 3 to 4 July 1187 near Tiberias at the double-peaked Horns of Hattin, the Battle of Hattin was Saladin's decisive victory over the combined field army of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. The Crusader force, suffering from thirst and fire set in the dry grass around them, was destroyed or captured; most Templar and Hospitaller prisoners were executed afterward. The defeat left the Kingdom of Jerusalem with almost no army to defend its cities.
