Battle of Tours

The Battle of Tours was fought on 10 October 732 near Moussais, in northern France, between Frankish and Aquitanian forces under Charles Martel and an invading Umayyad army under Abd al-Rahman al-Ghafiqi, during the Umayyad invasion of Gaul. Historians including Edward Gibbon have regarded the Frankish victory as significant in halting the further expansion of Umayyad rule into Western Europe.
