Battle of Blood River

The Battle of Blood River was fought on 16 December 1838 on the bank of the Ncome River in what is now KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, between 464 Voortrekkers led by Andries Pretorius and an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 Zulu warriors of King Dingane's army. The Voortrekkers, fighting from a fortified wagon laager, inflicted heavy losses on the Zulu force, estimated at more than 3,000 killed, while suffering only a handful of men lightly wounded.
