Battle of Britain

Modern

The Battle of Britain was a Second World War air campaign fought from 10 July to 31 October 1940, in which the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy defended the United Kingdom against large-scale attacks by Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe. Named after a June 1940 speech by Prime Minister Winston Churchill, it is considered the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces, and it ended in a British victory.
