The Battle of Moscow was a German-Soviet campaign on the Eastern Front of World War II from 2 October 1941 to 7 January 1942, in which German forces under Operation Typhoon attempted a pincer offensive against Moscow, the Soviet capital. Soviet defensive efforts, followed by a counter-offensive, halted the German advance and forced German armies back, ending in a Soviet victory that ended German hopes of a swift victory over the Soviet Union.
