The Siege of Leningrad was an Axis military blockade of Leningrad by Germany and Finland from 8 September 1941 to 27 January 1944, lasting 872 days, during which the city was never captured. Historians estimate approximately 1.5 million deaths from a prewar population of 3.2 million, and the siege ended in a Soviet victory as Axis forces were pushed back from the city.
