The QLZ-87 is an air-cooled, gas-operated 35 by 32 millimeter SR automatic grenade launcher that is crew transportable with limited amounts of ammunition. Unusual for a handheld grenade launcher, it fires high-velocity grenades that give it a longer range and flatter firing trajectory than typical designs, and it was the first indigenous automatic grenade launcher developed in China.
