The M16 mine is a United States-made bounding anti-personnel mine based on captured plans of the German S-mine of the Second World War, and shares similar performance to that earlier weapon. It was produced from the 1950s through 1974 and entered American service in 1957, weighing 4.1 kilograms with a one-pound TNT charge, and is designed to launch into the air before detonating between roughly 0.3 and 1.7 meters above the ground, producing a casualty radius of 27 to 30 meters depending on the variant.
