Krakatoa (explosive)

Grenades And Explosives

Krakatoa is a compact explosive charge made by the British firm Alford Technologies for explosive ordnance disposal and demolitions, small enough to fit in a container the size of a soft drink can, built from a plastic casing packed with C4 explosive beneath an inverted copper cone. Detonated remotely from a stand-off distance, the cone collapses into a high-velocity jet, called an explosively formed penetrator, capable of punching through an inch of steel plate or through concrete, and the device can be mounted on small legs and used in air, underwater, or extreme weather to disable tanks, vehicles, or ships. It takes its name from the 1883 Krakatoa volcanic eruption, one of the most violent in recorded history, and it gained public attention after being demonstrated on the Discovery Channel series Future Weapons.
