M93 Hornet mine

The M93 Hornet mine was an American anti-tank mine developed for the United States military as a wide-area munition capable of engaging armored targets up to 100 meters from where it was emplaced. Development contracts went to Honeywell Defense Systems and Textron Inc. beginning in August 1987, with Textron awarded the final development contract in April 1990; the mine used seismic and acoustic sensors to detect and track a target before firing a submunition whose infrared sensor triggered a top-attack warhead carrying a 450-gram tantalum slug. The program was cancelled in 1997 after only 441 units had been built, brought down by the end of the Cold War threat it was designed against and a unit cost of about 119190 dollars in 1996 dollars.
