The SureFire MGX is an American light machine gun and squad automatic weapon designed in 2002 by Jim Sullivan, Bob Waterfield, Alan Ostrowski, Paul Latulippe Jr. and Hyunjung Samuel Eyssautier, following a unified machine gun and rifle concept similar to the earlier Stoner 63 system. Built as prototypes by ArmWest LLC and marketed by SureFire LLC as a technology demonstrator, it is gas-operated with a rotating bolt, chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO or 6.8x43mm Remington SPC, feeds from 30-round STANAG magazines, fires from a closed bolt in semi-automatic and an open bolt in full-automatic, and can quickly swap barrels, cycling at 550 to 650 rounds per minute.
