The Kord is a Russian 12.7mm heavy machine gun that entered service in 1998, replacing the older NSV machine gun. It externally resembles the NSV, but its internal mechanism was extensively reworked, changing from a horizontally pivoting breech block to a rotating bolt design, with a revised gas system and redesigned muzzle baffle. These changes reduce recoil compared with the NSV and allow greater accuracy during sustained fire.
