The Skyranger 35 is a short-range air defense turret system designed by Rheinmetall Air Defence, originally developed as Oerlikon Contraves in Switzerland, with final assembly carried out in Italy to satisfy Swiss export rules. Designed from 2004, it mounts a 35mm revolver cannon capable of firing 1,000 programmable AHEAD airburst rounds a minute out to an effective range of 4 kilometers, guided by a 360 degree AESA radar and electro-optical sensors. It is built to engage aircraft, drones, cruise missiles, and rocket, artillery and mortar fire, and can be mounted on vehicles such as Boxer, Piranha and Leopard 2 chassis.
