Machine Guns And Automatic Weapons

The XM806 Lightweight .50 Caliber Machine Gun was a developmental belt fed heavy machine gun designed by General Dynamics under a contract awarded in May 2008, with development beginning in 2009 and the program cancelled in July 2012. It was intended as a lighter, lower recoil replacement for the M2 Browning machine gun, weighing about 40 pounds without its tripod, roughly 49 percent less than the M2, while producing about 60 percent less recoil. Chambered for the .50 BMG cartridge, it fired at a cyclic rate of 265 rounds per minute or 40 rounds per minute sustained, but it never entered service.
