Sukhoi Su-34

Military Aircraft

The Sukhoi Su-34 is a Russian twin-engine, two-seat fighter-bomber developed from the Su-27 Flanker air-superiority fighter, first flying in April 1990 but not entering official Russian Air Force service until March 2014 after an unusually long development period spanning more than two decades. Distinguished by its flattened, side-by-side two-seat cockpit, sometimes called a duckbill nose, which gives the crew more room and comfort on long missions, the aircraft is designed for precision ground-attack and strike missions, carrying up to roughly 12,000 kilograms of ordnance across twelve hardpoints along with terrain-following radar for low-level flight. More than 160 had been built by the mid-2020s, and the type has flown extensively in Russian operations in Syria and in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with an upgraded Su-34M variant continuing in production alongside a small number of export deliveries to Algeria.
