The Sukhoi Su-35 is a Russian single-seat, twin-engine multirole and air superiority fighter developed by Sukhoi under the United Aircraft Corporation, tracing its lineage to the Su-27M prototype that first flew on 28 June 1988 before the heavily modernized Su-35S production variant made its own first flight on 19 February 2008 and entered operational service in February 2014. Equipped with thrust-vectoring engines that give it supermaneuverability capable of sustained nine-g turns, and fitted with the N035 Irbis-E radar able to detect targets at ranges up to 400 kilometers, the Su-35 is classified as a 4.5-generation fighter bridging older Flanker-family designs and Russia's newer stealth aircraft. More than 155 have been built, flown by the Russian Aerospace Forces, China's People's Liberation Army Air Force and the Algerian Air Force, and the type has seen combat over Syria since 2016 and in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
