Dassault Rafale

Military Aircraft

The Dassault Rafale is a French twin-engine fighter aircraft built by Dassault Aviation, distinguished by its canard delta-wing configuration and designed from the outset as a multirole aircraft capable of a wide range of combat missions rather than a single specialized function. Its weapons and sensor systems allow it to be configured for air superiority, ground attack, reconnaissance, anti-ship strikes and, in French service, the delivery of nuclear weapons as part of France's independent nuclear deterrent, all potentially within capabilities carried by the same aircraft. Dassault markets the Rafale using the term omnirole rather than the more common multirole, emphasizing the aircraft's particular ability to shift between several of these different mission types during a single sortie rather than being optimized for and limited to one role per flight.
