The R-60, given the NATO reporting name AA-8 Aphid, is a short-range, lightweight infrared-homing air-to-air missile built by the Soviet Vympel design bureau, formerly Molniya, for Soviet fighter aircraft. Development began in the late 1960s for use on the MiG-23, series production started in 1973, and the missile went on to see wide export and continued use with the Commonwealth of Independent States and other nations.
