Skyflash is a British medium range, semi active radar homing air-to-air missile derived from the American AIM-7 Sparrow, designed by Hawker Siddeley and Marconi Space and Defence Systems and produced by BAe Dynamics. It replaced the Sparrow's original conical scanning seeker with a Marconi inverse monopulse seeker for better accuracy and jamming resistance, entering service in 1978 with a range of about 45 kilometers and a top speed of Mach 4. It armed Royal Air Force Phantoms and Tornado F3s, as well as Italian and Saudi Tornados and Swedish Viggens under the designation Rb 71, before being retired in 2006 in favor of AMRAAM.
