MICA (missile)

MICA is a French short to medium range, all-weather, fire-and-forget air defense missile developed from 1982 by Matra, later MBDA France, and introduced in 1996. It is built in two seeker variants, MICA RF with active radar homing and MICA IR with infrared homing, both designed to filter out countermeasures such as chaff and decoy flares. Beyond air-launched use on fighters such as the Rafale and Mirage 2000, MICA has been adapted into a ground-based vertical launch system known as VL MICA and a naval version, VL MICA-M. Thrust vector control on its rocket motor gives it high agility, and it can lock onto a target after launch, letting it engage targets beyond what its own seeker could originally acquire.
