Missiles And Guided Munitions

The S-13 is a 122 millimeter unguided rocket developed by the Soviet Air Force for use by military aircraft, entering trials in 1973 and formal service in 1983, and it remains in use with Russia's Aerospace Forces and other operators. It was designed as a penetrating munition able to crater runways and breach bunkers and aircraft shelters, filling a capability gap between the smaller 80mm and larger 240mm Soviet rocket families, with a launch weight of 57 kilograms, a 21 kilogram warhead carrying 1.82 kilograms of explosive, a range of 1.1 to 3 kilometers, and a velocity of 650 meters per second. It is fired from the five tube B-13L launcher and has been carried by Soviet and Russian aircraft including the Su-24, Su-25, Su-27, MiG-23BN, MiG-27, and MiG-29, and by the Mi-24, Mi-28, and Ka-50/52 helicopters.
