Missiles And Guided Munitions

The 3M-51 Alfa, also known as the P-900 Alfa, is a Russian anti-ship and land-attack cruise missile developed from 1993 onward by the OKB-52 design bureau, later NPO Mashinostroyeniya, drawing on the 3M54 Kalibr, the P-800 Oniks and the P-700 Granit and using a Granit-type engine; it can be launched from Yasen-class submarines and surface ships of the Russian Navy, with the design later evolving into the operational 3M54 Kalibr missile. Weighing about 2,600 kilograms in its ship, submarine and coastal launched versions or 1,600 kilograms when air-launched, it measures 8 meters long, carries a 300 kilogram warhead using turbojet and rocket propulsion, cruises subsonically before accelerating to about Mach 2.5 on final attack, is guided by active radar homing, and reaches a range of about 250 kilometers.
