GBU-44/B Viper Strike

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The GBU-44/B Viper Strike is a GPS aided, laser guided glide bomb derived from the Northrop Grumman Brilliant Anti-Tank submunition, originally intended for launch from unmanned aerial vehicles and later integrated onto the AC-130 gunship to provide precision standoff strike capability. First tested in 2003 with GPS guidance integrated by June 2005, it saw its first combat use in September 2007, and MBDA has owned the design since acquiring Northrop Grumman's Huntsville, Alabama munitions business in December 2011. The weapon weighs 20 kilograms, carries a 1.05 kilogram HEAT warhead, has a range of more than 10 kilometers, and achieves sub meter accuracy by combining GPS midcourse guidance with laser terminal guidance.
