The W47 was an American thermonuclear warhead developed between 1957 and 1960 by the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory for the Polaris A-1 submarine-launched ballistic missile. Eighteen inches in diameter and forty-seven inches long, it was produced in a 600-kiloton Y1 version and a 1.2-megatonne Y2 version, and remained in service from 1960 until the last examples were retired in 1974.
