The DF-15, also known as the M-9 or CSS-6, is a short-range ballistic missile developed by China, with design work beginning in 1985 and approval from the People's Liberation Army in 1987. It has been in service since 1990 and is fired from a road-mobile transporter erector launcher, guided by astro-inertial navigation backed by a ring-laser gyroscope and the Beidou satellite system. Depending on the variant, it carries a nuclear warhead of 50 to 350 kilotons or a conventional maneuverable warhead, with a range of roughly 600 to 900 kilometers.
