The R-29, given the NATO reporting name SS-N-8 Sawfly and the design-bureau name Vysota, is a family of Soviet and Russian submarine-launched ballistic missiles designed by the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau. The original liquid-fueled version entered service in 1974 with a range of about 7,700 kilometers and a single warhead of up to 800 kilotons, and the family grew into seven variants over time, with the modernized R-29RMU Sineva and R-29RMU2 Layner still operational aboard Russian Delta IV-class submarines.
