The RS-24 Yars is a Russian intercontinental ballistic missile developed from the earlier Topol-M design and modified to carry multiple independently targetable warheads. Designed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology and built at the Votkinsk Machine Building Plant, it was first tested in May 2007 and entered service with Russia's Strategic Missile Troops in 2010. It is a three-stage, solid-fuel missile with a range of roughly 11,000 to 12,000 kilometers, deployed from both silos and road-mobile transporter erector launchers.
