The HGM-25A Titan I was the United States' first multistage intercontinental ballistic missile, built by the Martin Company as a two stage, liquid fueled nuclear deterrent weapon. It entered service in 1959, standing 31 meters tall with a range of 6,101 nautical miles, and was deployed across six Air Force squadrons in the western United States. Only 70 launches, 53 of them successful, were conducted before the missile was retired in the early 1960s as the newer Titan II and Minuteman I systems became available.
