The LGM-118 Peacekeeper, originally developed under the designation MX missile, was an American intercontinental ballistic missile fielded by the United States Air Force from December 1986 until its retirement in September 2005. Built by Boeing, Martin Marietta, TRW and Denver Aerospace, it carried multiple independently targetable nuclear warheads, up to ten in practice, over a range of roughly 9,600 to 14,000 kilometers. Only fifty missiles ever entered operational service, based at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, well short of the two hundred originally planned.
