PGM-19 Jupiter

The PGM-19 Jupiter was the first nuclear-armed medium-range ballistic missile fielded by the United States Air Force. It was powered by a single Rocketdyne LR79-NA liquid-propellant rocket engine burning RP-1 fuel with a liquid oxygen oxidizer, producing 150,000 pounds of thrust, and it carried a 1.44 megaton W49 nuclear warhead, with Chrysler Corporation as prime contractor. Originally developed by the United States Army's Army Ballistic Missile Agency, the missile was declared operational on 15 January 1958 and was withdrawn from deployment by April 1963 as part of an understanding with the Soviet Union reached after the Cuban Missile Crisis.
