MGM-13 Mace

The Martin MGM-13 Mace was a ground-launched cruise missile developed from the earlier Martin TM-61 Matador. It carried a new self-contained navigation system that removed the need for updates from ground-based radio stations, letting it fly further beyond the front lines, and it was built larger than Matador to take advantage of the added range. Its original A model relied on a ground-mapping radar system that limited it to low or medium altitude flight; a new inertial navigation system introduced in 1959 removed that limit and nearly doubled the range, leading to the fixed-site B model of 1961. Mace was eventually replaced by the MGM-31 Pershing missile, and in its cruise-missile role for West Germany by the BGM-109G Ground Launched Cruise Missile.
