Soumar (missile)

The Soumar is an Iranian long-range cruise missile unveiled in 2015 and named for a village whose inhabitants died in a chemical weapons attack ordered by Saddam Hussein's government, with a design experts assess as highly likely derived from the Russian Kh-55, several examples of which Ukraine is alleged to have illegally sold to Iran in 2001. Its resemblance to the Kh-55 has led observers to speculate a range of 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers, though Iran has not disclosed its mass, length, warhead or guidance system, and analysts note that ground-launched cruise missiles like the Soumar were largely overlooked in international agreements on Iran's nuclear and missile programs.
