The Hongniao, or HN, series comprises turbofan-powered Chinese land-attack cruise missiles based on the X-600 design, manufactured by the New Electrical Factory in Shanghai. The first variant, the HN-1, completed a successful test flight in June 1999 and is believed to have entered service that year. Developed to replace earlier, oversized Chinese turbojet-powered Changfeng missiles, the Hongniao family can carry conventional or nuclear warheads over ranges from 600 to more than 3,000 kilometers.
