Missiles And Guided Munitions

The GT-1, or Glide Torpedo 1, was an early stand-off weapon developed by the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War, designed in 1942 and 1943 and used in service in 1944 and 1945. It combined a basic wing and twin tails with a cradle carrying a Mark 13 Mod 2A aerial torpedo with a 600-pound warhead, built by Aeronca, and could glide up to about 25 miles when released from 10000 feet under ideal conditions. It saw only limited use, launched from B-25 Mitchell bombers, with three known missions flown from Okinawa in late 1945.
