Akash-NG

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The Akash-NG, short for New Generation, is an Indian surface-to-air missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation as a successor to the Akash medium-range air defence missile. GlobalSecurity.org states that it is meant for use by the Indian Air Force to intercept highly maneuvering aerial threats with a low radar cross section, and that it was designed to deploy more easily than comparable systems, with a canisterized launcher and a much smaller ground system footprint. DRDO made its first successful launch from the Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha on 25 January 2021, when the missile intercepted its target while performing high maneuvers. A combined team of DRDO, Bharat Dynamics and Bharat Electronics ran the test, and the Multi Function Radar was tested for integration with the system.
