The AGM-78 Standard ARM is an American air-to-surface anti-radiation missile built by General Dynamics on the airframe of the RIM-66 Standard surface-to-air missile. It was developed to overcome the short range, small warhead and weak guidance of the earlier AGM-45 Shrike, giving crews the ability to strike radar sites up to 50 miles away. First issued to operational units in 1968, more than 3,000 were built between 1967 and 1976 before the type was retired from service in 1988 and replaced by the AGM-88 HARM.
