Nike-X was a United States Army anti-ballistic-missile system designed in the 1960s to defend against Soviet intercontinental ballistic missiles, combining the short-range Sprint interceptor missile with an advanced phased-array radar. Unlike its predecessor Nike Zeus, it was designed to wait until incoming warheads descended below 60 kilometers before engaging them and to track hundreds of objects at once using faster computers, but the program was canceled in 1967 and replaced by the lighter Sentinel system after China first hydrogen bomb test.
