The RIM-174 Standard ERAM, known as the SM-6, is a surface-to-air guided missile developed by Raytheon for the United States Navy, evolved into a multi-mission weapon also capable of anti-ship and ballistic-missile-defense roles. It reached operational status on November 27, 2013, when it was first deployed aboard USS Kidd, with an official range of 130 nautical miles (some estimates put it as high as 250 nautical miles), a top speed of Mach 3.5, and a ceiling above 110,000 feet. Beyond the US Navy, it has been exported to allied navies including Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Royal Australian Navy following export approval granted in January 2017.
