Sea Dart, also known as GWS.30, was a Royal Navy surface to air missile system designed in the 1960s by Hawker Siddeley Dynamics and entering service in 1973. It armed Type 42 destroyers, the Type 82 destroyer, and Invincible class aircraft carriers, and saw combat in the Falklands War and the Persian Gulf War, credited with nine confirmed successful engagements including the first known instance of a missile destroying another missile in actual combat. It was phased out between 2009 and 2012 in favor of the Sea Viper system.
