The G7e was the standard electric torpedo of the German Kriegsmarine submarine fleet in the Second World War, its first G7e(TII) version entering service in 1936 and drawing 60 to 72 kilowatts from lead-acid batteries. Early reliability failures known as the Torpedokrise were addressed by the improved G7e(TIII), which became the standard U-boat torpedo for the rest of the war, and later acoustic-homing variants such as the Falke and Zaunkonig extended the family to twenty distinct versions.
