The Mark 15 was the standard American destroyer-launched torpedo of the Second World War, designed in 1938 and serving the US Navy until 1956. It shared the Mark 14's faulty exploder and suffered further problems when a wartime cadmium shortage forced a switch to zinc parts that clogged water strainers and caused erratic runs, defects not fully resolved until November 1943.
