Powerhead (firearm)

A powerhead is a specialized firearm used underwater that fires when in direct contact with its target. It is used for spearfishing and against sharks or alligators, whether for sport, self-defense, or to kill nuisance animals. A powerhead consists of a length of tubing that serves as the chamber for the cartridge, a firing pin, and usually a safety pin or latch that prevents firing while engaged. When attached to a shaft it becomes a handheld device or one launched from a speargun, in which configuration it may be called a bang stick or shark stick.
