The RK 71, in Finnish Rynnakkokivaari 71 or assault rifle 71, commercially sold as the M71, is a Finnish assault rifle designed and manufactured by Valmet, based on the RK 62, which was itself derived from the Soviet AK-47. The Finnish Defence Forces tested the 7.62mm RK 71 between 1971 and 1973 as a possible replacement for the RK 62, but logistics issues prevented wide adoption, and the rifle was instead exported to Qatar; production ran from 1970 to 1976.
