SIG SG 530

The SIG SG 530 was a prototype Swiss assault rifle developed in the 1960s by Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft and Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta to fire the then-new M193 ball and M196 tracer 5.56x45mm NATO military rounds. It weighed 3.45 kilograms, measured 940 millimeters, used a gas-operated roller-delayed blowback action, fired at 600 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity of 912 meters per second and a maximum firing range of 500 meters, and fed from a 30-round detachable box magazine. Designed between 1963 and 1972, only about twenty prototypes were built before the project was abandoned in the mid-1970s, though the SG 530 served as the basis for the more successful SG 540 and SG 550 rifles.
