The Star Model Z62 is a Spanish submachine gun built by Star Bonifacio Echeverria from 1962 onward to replace the earlier Star Model Z45, firing from an open bolt by straight blowback with early production models featuring a double crescent trigger for selecting semi-automatic or fully automatic fire. Chambered for 9x23mm Largo in Spanish service and 9x19mm Parabellum for export, it weighs 2.87 kilograms, measures 480 millimeters overall with a 201 millimeter barrel, fires at about 550 rounds per minute, and feeds from a 30-round box magazine with an effective range of about 200 meters. It has been used by Spain, Argentina and Bolivia, including in the Argentine Dirty War and the Salvadoran Civil War.
