TKB-0146

The TKB-0146 was a Soviet bullpup assault rifle prototype designed by Igor Yakovlevich Stechkin at the TsKIB SOO design bureau and entered in the Soviet Army's Project Abakan trials chambered for the 5.45x39mm cartridge. It weighed 3.8 kilograms, measured 794 millimeters overall with a 420 millimeter barrel, and fed from a 30-round AK-74 compatible box magazine, capable of 600 rounds per minute sustained fire or 2,000 rounds per minute in a two-round burst mode with a muzzle velocity of 920 meters per second. Testers found it slightly more accurate than Gennady Nikonov's competing design, but its reliability suffered from fouling, and Nikonov's rifle went on to win the trials and become the AN-94.
